National Atomic Testing Museum

Come explore America’s nuclear history on a guided tour of the National Atomic Testing Museum! We’ll learn more about atomic testing, the Nevada Test Site, the Cold War, and nuclear and radiological science and technology. After the one-hour tour, you can visit the special exhibit on Area 51 for a small additional charge. Transportation to and from the museum from the convention area will be provided.

ALA registration did not indicate a fee for non-RUSA members. Is this in addition to the Area 51 charge?

Hi Liorah, yes, the event is free for RUSA members and $10 for non-members.  There's a separate, additional charge to go to the Area 51 exhibit.

P.S. The additional charge for the Area 51 exhibit is $6, and that exhibit is not part of the group tour.

Are we to pay for these tickets at the site or in advance online somewhere?

The tour is listed as a ticketed event on the ALA registration page:

It's been sold out for a while, but you can sign up for the waitlist using this form:

The RUSA History Section's Atomic Testing Museum tour at
ALA has been a hot ticket--it sold out before the end of January.  We're keeping a waitlist in case of cancellations.

If you'd like to attend, please sign up using this
form.  We'll give away tickets on a
first-come, first-served basis.

A few details:

  • It's free for RUSA members.
  • Shuttle bus to museum meets at the convention center on
Friday, 6/27 at 1:30, with return bus trips at 3:45, 4:15, and 5:00.
  • It's an hour-long guided tour, with some time to explore
    on your own.

We will also have an in-person waitlist when we meet the
shuttle bus, in case of no-shows.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

One, my registration shows I am registered for this, but I am not listed under attendees. Two, will the bus return us to convention center in time for the opening session at 4?

Hello Mary Jo,

You can be listed as an attendee if you click on the "add" icon on this page.  (It looks like a grey checkmark.)

All the details on the tour were in an email I sent to registered guests last Monday, June 9.  This message includes the timing of the return bus trips to the convention center.  I will re-send the message to you in a moment.  Let me know if you don't receive it.
