Beginning in 2012, the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the MacArthur Foundation, the Urban Libraries Council and the Association of Science-Technology Centers supported a robust 18-month planning and design process for 24 teen-centered “Learning Labs” across the United States. Join us for a conversation about the project, hear about key findings from NYU’s 18-month study and engage in discussion about recommendations in critical areas such as collaboration, teen engagement, space design, staffing models, outcomes and funding strategies.

Building upon the experiences of current shared print initiatives, Maine Shared Collections Strategy (MSCS) and the Center for Research Libraries (CRL) are co-sponsoring a session exploring how the shared print landscape will likely develop in years to come. The session will act as both a call for future action for existing shared print initiatives and as a good starting place for those debating whether shared print is a good fit for their institution. There will be opportunities for attendees to share their own experiences of managing print collections. The session will follow a PAN forum update (9:00-9:45 am). What research and evaluation has been done to determine whether ECRR2 is really supporting our children? What are the research results? How can you use their results to support your work? Two IMLS research grants will be discussed: Project VIEWS and Bringing Home Literacy: determining the impact of library programming on parent behavior. Research results will be shared and discussed. Other research on using ECRR2 with in home child cares will be shared.

Make your library a place where adult literacy programs create economic development for the community. Use heat maps to target high-challenge literacy service areas. Define and track measurable service outcomes related to employment, postsecondary education and job training programs. Learn how it's done at the Computer Assisted Literacy in Libraries (CALL) Program, a unique partnership between the fabulous Las Vegas-Clark County Library District (LVCCLD) and the Nevada Department of Education through Title II of the Workforve Investment Act, commonly known as the Adult Education and Family Literacy Act (AEFLA).

This Discussion Starter panel presentation will include leadership from the Nevada Department of Education and staff from the CALL Program, moderated by the LVCCLD's Literacy Services Coordinator, Tim McDonald.
