Library Power to the People: Facing Up to the Climate Crisis with Information & Action (REFORMA President’s Program) Affiliate Event Las Vegas Convention Center
N235
Description :

As information professionals and community leaders, librarians are well-positioned to engage with many groups of people about the urgency of the climate crisis, including Latino, Native American and other communities of color, in ways that empower all of us to create a more sustainable world. Providing educational material, inspiring programs and accessible public space, we help set the stage for all citizens to take the immediate and long term actions needed for a healthier, more just planet.
Learn about existing library projects, programs and publications that empower communities to take action.
Envision how libraries can provide a space for cultural groups to contribute to awakening and empowering their communities.
Learn about climate justice actions happening through groups such as Native American Climate Task Force, Mobilization for Climate Justice, Americas Latino Festival, National Latino Coalition on Climate Change, Voces Verdes, as well as mainstream groups such as Transition U.S., and 350.org.
Share your own library projects, programs and practical ideas for climate change education and action. We will tie back to and build on our 2013 program, which centered on specific impacts to the environments where Latinos live and work.
Your ideas will be captured and shared within REFORMA: The National Association to Promote Library and information Services to Latinos and the Spanish Speaking, the American Indian Library Association (AILA), other library ethnic caucuses, the ALA Sustainability Roundtable (SustainRT) and beyond.
