Why are some school libraries better supported than others? Working with a team of researchers, Ken Haycock has interviewed more than 200 administrators, politicians and lobbyists. Through examination of decisions taken in difficult financial times, and the behaviors of teacher-librarians and school administrators, six principles for persuasion have been validated. Evidence and messaging are not working when the support for school libraries continues to decline. Learn the principles, and many examples, to be successful in any situation.

Donalyn Miller says she has yet to meet a child she couldn’t turn into a reader. Author of The Book Whisperer, Donalyn reflects on her journey to become a reading teacher and describes her unconventional approach to inspire and motivate middle school students to read 40 or more books a year. In her latest book, Reading in the Wild, Donalyn collects responses from 900 adult readers and uses this information to teach lifelong reading habits to her students. Donalyn has worked with upper elementary and middle school students and currently teaches fifth grade at O.A. Peterson Elementary in Forth Worth, Texas. Her articles about teaching and reading have appeared in publications such as The Reading Teacher, Educational Leadership and The Washington Post.
